How to Care for a Leather Bag

A leather bag is meant to be carried. The aim of care is not to keep it looking unused, but to let the surface age well. The Leather Care page collects the full guide; this note is a shorter companion.

Everyday habits

Wipe away dust with a soft, dry cloth. If the bag gets wet, blot — do not rub — and let it dry naturally, away from heaters and direct sun. A barely damp cloth is enough for light marks. Avoid soaking the leather or using household cleaners.

Conditioning and storage

Leather benefits from occasional conditioning when it looks dry. Use a small amount of a conditioner made for leather, applied evenly, and allow it to absorb. Store in a cool, dry place, stuffed lightly so the shape holds, out of prolonged sunlight. A breathable dust bag is better than plastic.

What to avoid

Do not soak the leather. Do not use household cleaners, a hairdryer, or heat to dry a wet bag. Avoid keeping it in plastic. Fine scratches are part of how leather lives; many will soften as the surface oils redistribute. Deep marks are a record of use, not a reason to panic.
